FRANCESCO LANDUCCI

1 December 2007 – 2 February 2008
Inauguration: Saturday 1 December at 6.00 pm

The Sincresis Association presents in its exhibition spaces a personal exhibition of Francesco Landucci who has
participated last June in the project The state of the art promoted by the Municipality of Montelupo Fiorentino e
by the Montelupo Culture and Promotion Institution in collaboration with the degree course in Industrial Design of the
Faculty of Architecture of Florence and with our association.
Francesco Landucci, a Tuscan artist residing in Florence, has long been known for his creative itinerary, working
crystal and cellulose with imprints and seals that take on symbolic significance. For years he has been making works that
exude in their materiality the urgency of the essence and the tension of research into the nature of a trace of
transcendent.
Active in the restoration and recovery of geological and paleontological elements for the University of Florence,
he establishes a direct link between this type of research and the artistic operation by projecting his universe into
glass paste imbued with light and imprinted cellulose from which a tangle of signs emerges, a labyrinth of reliefs and
counter-reliefs that urge the gaze to grasp infinite paths for the eyes and the mind, and feed the touch to
dig deep to discover immeasurable points of reference, as authentic cosmic coordinates.
The glass shapes often look like magmatic fragments in organic pulsation, deriving from the earth, from its excavation
to draw fossil forms that were once living and that now, imprinted on glass or paper, become emblems,
traces, footprints that arouse once again the possibility of returning to life, of resurrecting as if to find in them the germs of
living, the swarm of life just before the germinal burst, as when the bud is about to open. They are presences
that return to breathe, in which the breath of life is perceived again, as when the master glassmaker from the material
inert, from the sands, only dust, it gives rise through the breath to the vitalization and to the generation of the vitreous matter,
immersed in the fire of the origin of the whole.
The artist, who, in addition to presenting his work in solo exhibitions, including Amidà at the Grafio association in Prato
in 1999 or Traces off center at Villa Vogel in Florence in 2002, and in collective, from the VII Triennial of Engraving
at the Museo della Permanente in Milan in 1994 in Presa d’aria at the former prison of Santa Verdiana in Florence in
1994, from Libre at the CID of the Pecci Museum in Prato in 2002 and In the sign of light. Biennial of Sacred Art in S.
Gabriele in Abruzzo in 2002 at Let’s give a Chance at the Base Association in Florence in 2003, he designed and
elaborate permanent installations in buildings of a sacred nature, refers to natural elements such as fire, energy
origin that nourishes in its burning, archetype that creates and collects the essence, the earth, mother generating, water,
emblem of life and catharsis, the air, the breath of the universe that gives rise to the first pulsation, to the living breath, whose
cosmic union expresses the mystery and gathers the revelation of truth and entity beyond the visible.
On display he presents his latest works, including The Tree of Life, created specifically for the spaces of the Priory of
San Lorenzo in Montelupo Fiorentino last June, photographic works that refer to the images of boluses and seeds
they take on significance related to the continuous regeneration and proliferation of nature almost in dialectical contrast with the ephemeral
and absence.
Each work is revelatory and each form is detached from the usual iconography, to be derived from the earth’s magma,
comes out of the matter, its dynamic movement is perceived, its articulation to the point of detachment from the inert and from
what remains as magma, to become almost Aristotelian form from matter, a “figure” in search of one
completeness, from power to action.
In the clash between rationality and the desire for unveiling, between mind and spirit, the artist prefers the latter to engage
a path that contains the mystery of life and death, both in the glare of the crystal and in the textures of the paper,
that invite you to touch, to feel, to find viable ways while waiting to reach a port, to grasp in the mosaic of
signs the wisdom food.
The wear and tear of inner conflicts, the emotional contrition of waiting, anxiety
of the discovery crystallized in the fluidity of the material.
The seals are “the signature of all his artistic work, which starts from an initial imprint, a seal that the superior entity, art,
the genius has inscribed in his mind, in his heart, in his hands and which, by now, are sailing in a holy, immaculate
“Imaginary” of signs in search of meaning “(G.Billi).As the seal contains truths to be unsealed, so the books created by the artist are an expression of knowledge,
opening them, touching them means discovering truths, deciphering them, running your hand over the signs, grasping authentic clues waiting for
revelations, an aspect that has become the emblematic figure of Francesco Landucci’s complete creative itinerary.
