Eclipse Vision. Dori Karam

SINCRESIS Cultural Association for Contemporary Arts offers an exhibition of photographic works made by the artist of Lebanese origin Dori Karam who lives in Australia and present in our residence for artists from the beginning of November 2013 to work towards an installation that has proposed to the ninth edition of the Florence Biennale from 28 November to 8 December.

In this case Dori presents a series of works that result from free shots made while he was walking along the streets of the center of Empoli, focusing his attention on the metal structure of the shopping center a short distance from our office.For the artist, this building created in 2007 under a joint project dell’Inres and architects Adolfo Natalini and Renzo Funaro as first experience of shopping center multipurpose open to multiple activities that extends in a large park, became a symbol of ‘global universe, in terms of an economic world that generates standardizing massification. A perfect expression of ordinary life in his repeated always equal attenuates or limits the judgment and assumption of awareness about the situation that we are living from passive spectators, as numbers in a progression serial, continuous and cyclical which prevents derailments and not promises exit routes as differences in respect of a system made in which is less than the capacity of choice and produce inferences.

Dori has modified the yield lifelike images preferring to negative effects by simply clicking on the digital medium to change the colors that alternate in simultaneous contrasts, so that sections of the building photographed become completely other, perceived as almost astract solutions.

The pictorial effect is accentuated by printing on paper by engineers, while the architectural parts are made in light planes and backgrounds to plat favoring warm color ranges that demonstrate a background in the Environment traceable origin and existence, with results coming to Gestalt, stimulating the viewer to cognitive perceptions without showing any interest in the identification of the sites, but rather reaching almost to annul them.It looks like a visual game that erases the references of a monotonous daily life to advance on other areas of thought, imagination in the act of transformation sublimating who lives in the chest of digital manipulation.
